STREET JAM: The Jamaican will join Ugandan stars such as Jose Chameleone and Bobi, writes EDGAR R. BATTE.

Jamaican born music star Nyanda will headline the Club Mega Fest that is on tomorrow in Masaka town. Nyanda is former lead singer, and one half of Brick & Lace, who were in Kampala in 2007, riding on their breakout hit, Love is Wicked. The US based artiste is famed for songs such as Slippery When Wet, Put It On Me, I Love Sax and Trouble. She started her solo career in 2013.
Also on stage will be Jose Chameleone, Bobi Wine, Rema Namakula, Gravity Omutujju, Geoffrey Lutaaya, Irene Namatovu, Big Eye, homeboy SK Brian and Leila Kayondo.
On top of the artistes entertaining the crowd, comedians will also tickle fans. Amarula Family’s Amooti Omubalanguzi, Emcee Kapale and Dolibondo will also be on stage.
The brainchild of the street fest, that has been on for the last three years, Robert Jackson Nkuke, explains that the idea occurred to him when he was in a low moment.
“I was broke and resting on my bed. I thought of a music fete that could entertain locals in Masaka, which happens to be my home town. The first edition of the fest was not successful as it only attracted a handful of people. I remember returning to Kampala with only 25k in my wallet. Last year, it was successful and I was able to make a profit of Shs10m,” Nkuke, who is also part of singer Chameleone’s management says.
This year, the fete is running under the theme, Bigger and Better. It has been rebranded Club Mega Fest after Club Beer took over as the headline sponsors.
“We have improved the event this year by flying in an international artiste and taking them out of town. Last year, we had a Club Mega Fest in Namboole, Kampala and we got feedback of upcountry people complaining that we only do big shows in Kampala. So, we have chosen to take shows of town? We recently took Nigerian star Timaya to Jinja and now we are taking Nyanda to Masaka,” Club Beer’s brand manager, Sam Hooper said.
The fete will start with NTV’s Xposed show that will be telecast live from Masaka between midday and 3pm before stage performances kick off.
