When she left her home country, Sweden, for Uganda, Dana Simovic, looked forward to enjoying what the Pearl of Africa had to offer. She got here and was pleased to interact with friendly people. The weather was a bit hot though. She later discovered it was a result of deforestation.
She immediately thought of children to head a campaign she codenamed Dana- Develop A New Africa. She explains that children have the right to live a healthy life in a safe and healthy environment.
“We want to open people’s minds to a clean environment and show how important this is for the human wellbeing. Children are curious and that’s why I think the best way is through environmental education,” she explains, adding that many children die in environment related diseases today.
To spearhead her campaign she has also used artistes and on Tuesday last week, she hosted the artistes, who are partners on the project, at the launch of Dana.
This was at Big Mike’s Bar, Lounge and Restaurant, located on Acacia Avenue. These include Raga Dee, Washington Ebangit who is also a producer, Coco Finger, Levixone, Chris Evans and Lyto Boss, among others. The artistes have recorded a song titled Keep On Going.
Artiste Coco said tree growing and protection of the environment is one way in which children can influence their future. Simovic said the music video of the song is aimed at drumming up efforts to save the environment.
