MELODIOUS: The Mulirwana singer meets his fan, Mariam Nakabugo

What is your real name and why did you decide to use the name King Saha?
My name is Manisul Ssemanda. I was a footballer back while still in high school, and I used to play like Louis Saha and when I joined the music industry, people said I can do anything like a king, thus the name King Saha.

When did you join the music industry?
I was a musician all along. This is not something that came out of the blue, it was my destiny. I participated both in the school and church choirs.

Which schools did you attend?
I went to Good Daddy Nursery, St Agnes and Agalyaawamu Secondary School for O’Level, Kajjansi Progressive and Nkumba Secondary for my A’ Level and I graduated with a Diploma in Business Administration from Muteesa I Royal University.

Who is your inspiration?
Being a talented artiste, I inspired myself, but I used to love Lucky Dube’s songs.

How many songs do you have?
I have many songs some of which are not yet recorded but to mention a few, Signal, Sikyasobola, Tonfako, Bantu Baffe, Pretty and Mulirwana, among others.

What is your best song among those you’ve done?
All of them are special and the best is yet to come.

What collaborations are you looking at in the near future?
I’m so free to work with anyone provided they are talented. It can be an established or upcoming artiste.

In your view, who is the most talented artiste in Uganda?
Everyone is good in their own style, but I respect those big artistes who have been in the game for long. They have seen and survived the harshness of the music industry but they haven’t backed down.

Is it true you are signed to Team No Sleep?
I’m a solo artiste who deals with many record labels. My new management is Kings Love Management.

Why did you leave Jose Chameleone’s Leone Island?
I guess it was time for me to move on.

Are you seeing someone?

What does the future look like for Saha?
Just expect more. God willing, I want to be remembered as an artiste who changed the face of the music industry.

What is your style of music?
I can do any style, but I specialise in Urban-Afro.

Do you think you are better than Mowzey Radio when it comes to vocal ability?
My goal in the music industry is getting successful but not being the best. We are both good, but it is up to you guys to decide who is better.
