Multi tasker: Dan Flavor is an Afro Zouk musician who also doubles as an events planner and marketeer at Club Venom. He met his fan Elias Kayemba, a Kampala businessman.

What is your real names and why do you use Dan Flavor for a stage name?
My real name is Daniel Tumwesigye, but I decided to use Dan Flavor because of the way the music industry is set up. You have to be creative and that is why I cut out a few letters from my name to come up with Dan who has Flavor in his music.

When did you join the music industry?
I can say the moment I was dropped on earth is when I joined the music industry because instead of crying, I was born singing (laughs out loud) that’s what my mom told me.

How many songs do you have?
I have two albums with 16 songs. I have songs like Rudinyumbani, Sinamakosa, Engombo Yakyuka, Scared For Love and Pick Up De Phone, among others.

I heard you also work at Club Venom, what exactly do you do there?
I’m the assistant marketing manager and events planner. I help out in marketing the place and then have a weekly plan to sustain the club. I’m the one behind most of the theme nights.

What’s your take on music industry currently?
I’m happy by its progress, but the problem we are facing is that some of the key departments supposed to promote us put much emphasis on foreign music but apart from that, we are heading in the right direction.

Tell me about your family background?
I was born to Mr and Ms Paul Rushesha, my dad is retired army officer, now serving as a pastor. I’m the second last born with two sisters and three brothers.

What is your style of music?
I do Afrozouk.

What has been your happiest and saddest day of your life?
The happiest day of my life was the first day I heard my song play on Dembe FM and my saddest moment was when I almost lost my mum to Malaria.

If you were told to choose between heaven and earth, what would you choose and why?
Heaven, because it’s the final destination every creature on earth would love to go to in the end.

If you were not an artist, what would you have become?
I think I would be a soldier.

Which schools did you go to?
Bat Valley Primary School, Katikamu SDA and Kiryokya Secondary School. I later did a Bachelors of Arts in Developmental Studies at Bugema University.

What is your worst and best Ugandan song ever?
My best is my Rudinyumbani, my own song and my worst are those that are nasty like Emmese and Emboko.

What can’t you leave without?
I can’t live without music.

What are your future plans?
I have a concert coming up on June 20, at Venom, and a Europe tour thereafter.
