Uganda movie-goers will have a chance to win Shs2m when a replica of Thor’s Hammer, Mjonir, comes to town next week. It will be the centre of attraction at the premiere of Thor: The Dark World, a 2013 American superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character.
It is the second Thor film following 2011’s Thor and the eighth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The movie premiered at the Odeon Leicester Square in London on October 22, and was scheduled for wide release in various international markets including Uganda from October 30 until November 8.
Sources at Pepsi say anyone who will lift Thor’s Hammer with one hand will win Shs2m from the beverage company. The weight of the hammer, made of neutron-star matter, is still a subject of constant debate among comic book enthusiasts with some saying its weight is equivalent to more than 140 billion tonnes, while others suugest it’s the weight of 300 elephants. It remains to be seen how much the replica will weigh.
The movie features The Avengers stars Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, playing two divine brothers, Loki and Thor, banding together this time around instead of butting heads. Idris Elba also returns as Heimdall, the all-seeing guardian of Asgard.
The movie is showing in 3D at Cineplex on November 8.
