East African visual artists hold universal art exhibition

East African Visual Artists (EAVA Artists) with support from the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives and in partnership with Goethe-Zentrum Kampala/UGCS recently organized the Human Rights Are Universal Art Exhibition at the Goethe-Zentrum rooftop on Bukoto street Kampala.

According to the director of EAVA, Vincent Kyabalinze, the exhibition aims to bring artists using art to advocate for different social justice together as well as understand the respective causes, form collaborations and expose their art to new audiences they wouldn’t have reached by themselves.

He explains, “The role of art in advocacy cannot be ignored as art is a universal language that is understood by all. Art brings to context the various violations and allows even those that have not faced them to understand the victims and build allies out of them.”

“The artists exhibiting were from marginalized communities, refugees, differently-abled persons, and gender-diverse artists and people living with HIV/Aids,” he adds.

As such the arts entity wants to create an avenue for artists to gather, meet and discuss new market trends and sell their work to generate an income.

Kyabalinze adds that their goal is for visual artists to earn an income from their work as they champion human rights causes. His objective is to make the exhibition an annual event.
