MUFASA Fashion show climaxes annual CEDAT open day at Makerere

The 10th Annual College of Engineering Design Art and Technology (CEDAT) open day went down at Makerere University on November 19 to the excitement of the students. To climax the two-day event, the Makerere University Fine Art Students Association (MUFASA) organised a fashion show themed ‘Fashion is a lifestyle’.

Unlike the previous years, this year’s MUFASA Fashion show was conducted indoors at the Central Teaching Facility 2 auditorium (CTF2). The turnup was encouraging as students flocked the venue to catch a glimpse of the showcased collections from designers like Wendy’s Collection, Waya Collections, Wild Mastered, Vivian Collections, and Cynthia collections.

The students also enjoyed showcases from Shadrah collections and Kia Cosmetics who did the makeup of the models. According to Lincoln Axarya the Speaker MUFASA and organiser of the show, there are many things they do as a college that people don’t know. He said fashion cuts across because it is all people do and this means lifestyles should define its art.

“Wendy is a first year student. Seeing her exhibit what she does best is surely incredible. We incorporated fashion, painting, ceramics, and sculptures in this show, this was a unique event.” He added: “The runway gave viewers a beautiful experience as it was a student-based initiative aimed at showcasing that lifestyle cuts across things we do.”

Loius Kironde the MUFASA president shared that the artworks exhibited are inspired by the culture and embedded in fashion.

“People know art as a painting but we want to give it more relevance for people to relate it with. It was a challenging show but we managed to pull it off.” He shared that the students did everything from the designs to training the models and did not have any external help whatsoever, something he said is aimed at empowering them to be big fashion icons of tomorrow.
