Miss Tourism Uganda embark on ‘Let the Pearl Shine’ campaign

The team in Kabale

Miss Tourism Uganda has embarked on a campaign to clean 12 different tourism destinations. They are doing this in a campaign known as ‘Let the Pearl Shine’. In the campaign, the Miss Tourism Uganda office is using different Beauty Queens who represent different regions to spearhead the campaign to see that their cities are clean and most especially different tourism destinations.

According to Ivan Lugya, the Project Coordinator for Miss Tourism Uganda, they have been to different tourism regions but they realized there is too much littering. “We have been to Karamoja and one of their tourism sites is the Manyattas, the Manyattas are a group of huts built in one place, and the ones in Karamoja are dirty and cannot attract potential tourists,” Lugya said. He added that it is the reason Miss Tourism Uganda as a team came up with the campaign.

The campaign kicked off this year in January and it has so far been to different tourist destinations like Kigezi, Mbarara, and Busoga tomorrow, they will be cleaning the Buganda region and the rest of the regions will follow. The Let the Pearl Shine campaign comes after Miss Tourism campaigns like the tree planting, Road Safety, and their major campaign which is promoting domestic tourism.
