On the night of October 4, the Miss Tourism finale was held at the Kampala Serena Hotel. At the venue, 25 contestants battled it out for the crown.

The event which started at about 9.30 pm was fused with glitz, glamour, and entertainment with one of the night’s highlights coming from the renowned Ghetto Kids who put up an electrifying performance for almost 20-minute.

As the night went on, the 25 contestants were slashed down to ten, then, to five and finally to the final three.

Phiona Bridget Kyeru, 22, who works as an assistant accountant at Reign Ads Limited in Kamwokya was crowned as Miss Tourism 2019/20.

Prossy Premah Agwang, 18, a student at YMCA Comprehensive Institute in Kampala studying a certificate in business administration emerged as first runner up while Jean Corprise Akullo, 19, a student at Kyambogo University studying a bachelors degree in interior design and landscape architecture emerged as the second runner up.

According to the night’s judges, all the contestants were judged right from boot camp where they were getting pageant training on different life skills including etiquette, public speaking and handling newly found fame, among other aspects.

The marks from boot camp were then added to those obtained during the night’s finale where each contestant was subjected to a question and answer session from the respective five judges. The questions were mostly affiliated to Uganda’s tourism sector.

Shortly after 2:00am (the event ended quite late) the judges settled for Kyeru as the ultimate choice as the title bearer.

Kyeru walked away with a car, a Noah, which was gifted by renowned business man, Jack Pemba, as well as a land title from Sema Properties Limited. She replaces Margaret Kankwanzi who was Miss Tourism 2018/19.

The new title holder will now represent Uganda in Malaysia at the Miss Tourism International. The event will take place on November 8.
