Bobi Wine recognized for his fight against human rights abuses in America

Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine

Legislator Robert Kyagulanyi alias Robert Kyagulanyi received an award on Tuesday for his persistent fight against human rights abuses in Uganda. The award was given to him at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition Annual Conference in Chicago, USA.

“I am not speaking to you as an expert on human rights law. Far from that, I’m just an ordinary citizen of the world born and raised in the biggest slum of Uganda, the ghetto of Kamwokya. That’s where I come from. My passion to fight for freedom was indeed not born out of the classroom… It was born out of the streets, out of my experience from growing up out of the poorest of the poorest in Uganda and those are the people who face the worst human rights violations in my country Uganda…,” Bobi Wine said in his acceptance speech.

Before adding that he’s lucky to have received the award but he’s not the only one who faces the kind of treatment but many more. He gave an example of Dr. Stella Nyanzi who he referred to as an activist and academic giant that is still rotting in jail because of the poem she wrote that criticizes the president.
