There was joy and happiness last night after opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) party president Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine and his team visited several streets of Kampala and shared a meal with the homeless.

The politician-cum-artiste together led a team that moved on city streets distributing food and drinks to whoever they found sleeping or sitting on several verandas.

Bobi Wine, who grew in the ghetto, said “only those who have slept hungry for lack of food or slept on the street before would understand the pain which these people go through every day.”

“We thought it was important to share with them the first supper of the New Year and give them words of encouragement. It is also important to raise their plight, because they end up on the streets for different reasons. Such people must be thought about as we plan and strive to build a nation where all citizens live in dignity,” Bobi Wine wrote on social media.

One street kid was hailed Bobi Wine adding that she “hadn’t had a proper meal in several days.”

Meanwhile, Bobi Wine was in the company of his brother popularly known as Chairman Nyanzi and NUP secretary general David Rubongoya, among others.
