Musician’s association begs Ministry of Gender for help as office rent continues to hit hard

Since the inauguration of Ugandan musician’s body in March, the Uganda Musicians Association has been struggling to meet rent bills for the office that is housed at National Theatre building in Kampala.

However, it turns out that managers of the office that has been sealed off on two occasions are neither having financial constraints or unwilling to pay.

Ms. Sophie Ggombya who is the office custodian and the president of Uganda Musicians association indicated earlier on local Television station that the musicians’ body is pushing to harmonize their stay at National theatre.

A source inside National theatre revealed that musicians wrote to Ministry of Gender asking for rent waiver for a period of four years.

It is understood that the ministry wrote back to the Uganda National Cultural Centre to take action but UNCC management indicated that their working relationship with the musician’s association still stands as per the initial agreement to avoid audit queries.

It is understood that the musician’s body applied for space at National Theatre as tenants not musicians.
