As riots raged on in Tanzania after presidential polls, reports merged in the media indicating that Bongo Flavour musician, Diamond Platinumz, his wife Zuchu and their families had fled the country.
Further reports indicate that the country’s top musician and his people sought refuge in Mombasa, Kenya after he feared for his life as protestors had targeted musicians who had been touting President Hassan Samia Suluhu and her Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party.
Unconfirmed reports coming out of Kenya indicated that Kenyans had also started threatening to visit the hotels that hosted Diamond. This was followed with claims that he had booked a flight to Dubai.
All this because he is one of the celebrities who had been supporting President Samia’s re-election bid. When violence broke out, Diamond deleted all social media posts endorsing Samia’s candidature.
This however, did not seem to appease the protesters, who targeted his properties and threatened him. Reports suggest that Platinumz, along with his mother, other family members, and a delegation of 24 people, sneaked out of Tanzania through Tanga Airport to escape the violence.
All this started after protests following the country’s recent general election, where President Samia Suluhu was the solo candidate in the Presidential elections after the electoral commission disqualified several opposition candidates, including Tundu Lissu, the leader of the Chadema party, who was barred from running due to treason charges.
