Pictorial: Gulu comes alive as Bell Obafest kicks off regional tour

The northern city of Gulu came alive on Saturday as Bell ObaFest officially kicked off its regional pre-festival activations in grand style, turning Kweyo Village into a vibrant hub of music, food, and beer-fuelled celebration.

The mini-ObaFest brought together hundreds of revellers eager to experience the festival’s trademark fusion of heritage, rhythm, and flavour — and this year, it came with a refreshing twist. At the heart of the excitement were the two newest trendsetters in town: Bell Citrus and Bell Honey, a fresh addition to the Bell Lager family that gave Gulu a whole new appreciation for beer.

The night’s energy built steadily as top DJs DJ Drey, DJ Imos, and DJ Frisco delivered electrifying mixes that had the crowd dancing from sunset till late. The party atmosphere hit fever pitch when local stars Eddy Wizzy and Free Boy took the stage, followed by a much-anticipated performance from rising sensation Kapeke. Though his set was short, it was nothing short of explosive, with the audience singing along to hits like Akasanyalaze, Kaba, Shuu, and Swiririri.

Speaking at the event, Lillian Kansiime, Brand Manager for Bell Lager, described the new flavours as the next big wave in the beer world.

“Bell Citrus and Bell Honey are a new movement set to push the boundaries of creativity, flavour, and enjoyment within the beer category,” she said. “With these new variants, Bell is giving ObaFest a refreshed taste experience — flavour for your flavour.”

As the night deepened, DJ Baby Love took over the decks, delivering an unforgettable set that kept Gulu dancing under the northern skies. The electric crowd, the music, and the cheerful spirit of Uganda’s favourite heritage beer made it a night to remember.

With such an energetic start in Gulu, all eyes now turn to Arua, where the next ObaFest activation will take place on October 25, setting the stage for the ultimate Bell ObaFest celebration in Kampala on November 15.

Now in its third edition, Bell ObaFest returns under the theme “Flavour for Your Flavour” — promising not just great music and food, but a whole new way to enjoy beer through the refreshing taste of Bell Citrus and Bell Honey.

From Gulu’s high spirits to Kampala’s grand finale, Bell ObaFest 2025 is shaping up to be the biggest celebration of flavour yet.
