Lately, our vibe has been trending internationally and not because of politics for once. Dancehall legend Vybz Kartel, yes, the World Boss himself, has been lip-syncing random Ugandan TikToks . And not even the viral ones real hidden gems from deep in the algorithm, videos you only find when you have scrolled too far at 2 am. The man’s algorithm clearly knows quality content when it sees it. Then there’s Fuse ODG, the artiste we had almost filed under where are they now? , who recently dropped a song titled 54 Countries. When he got to Uganda, he didn’t talk about Lake Victoria or mountain gorillas he said, If you want to party non-stop, go to Kampala. Imagine that.
Our national reputation is the country that never stops turning up. Even Monday is treated like Friday in disguise. It then hit me whenever African artistes sing about different countries, Uganda always sneaks its way into the lyrics. We are not the richest, or the most advanced, but we are the undeniable vibe capital of Africa. Every artiste who’s been here says the same thing that Uganda feels like home. Some even sneak back quietly for random nights out, just to breathe in the chaos, the laughter, the Rolex smoke, and the sound echoing past 3 am. We might not have everything figured out, but one thing is clear the vibe is undefeated.
