The Ugandan entertainment industry is in shock following the death of veteran media personality and deejay DJ Bush Baby, born Michael Owor, who was found dead in his studio in Entebbe on Tuesday June 5, 2025.
Preliminary reports indicate that DJ Bush Baby was discovered unresponsive at his residence, where he had set up a home studio. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, and authorities are yet to release an official statement.
Bush Baby had been a towering figure in Uganda’s media and music landscape for more than two decades. He rose to prominence in the early 2000s, helping define Uganda’s urban radio culture with his smooth voice, eclectic music taste, and deep love for hip-hop and R&B. He worked at leading media houses, earning respect for his trailblazing style and ability to mentor young talent.
In 2021, DJ Bush Baby was involved in a serious accident that left him with a fractured pelvic bone and internal injuries. He had been in and out of recovery since then, with many close friends and colleagues rallying around him for support.
Despite his health struggles, Bush Baby remained passionate about media and continued to work on creative projects from his Entebbe home.
“He was more than a DJ — he was a movement, a mentor, and a big brother to many of us in the game,” one tribute read.
Bush Baby’s death is a devastating loss to Uganda’s creative industry. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by his family in the coming days.
