In what can only be described as peak Ugandan entertainment, Eddy Kenzo has challenged Azawi to a public debate.
Not a battle of vocals, not a dance-off but a debate about social issues. I guess after wife-ing a minister, a couple of music nominations, you have toured the world, public policy is the next logical step. Now, the challenge is not in finding issues to discuss, it is in choosing a venue.
Azawi wants the debate to happen in the ghetto, because… roots. She insists they must go back where it all started, in the trenches, the pork joints, and the 500-shilling hair salons. Meanwhile, Kenzo is allegedly still consulting his team of interpreters because English has refused to cooperate with him since awamidu lessi do. We need to talk about the language of the debate.
Luganda? English? Kenzo-ese? , the venue and language work hand in hand. Should it be a closed-door event? Or open to the fans, with the ghetto youth shouting “points!” and “Order!”, a true replica of our current honourable parliament.
