Singer Jowy Landa has broken her silence following the burial of her brother, Martin Kawuki, who passed away on Wednesday, 11th June 2025, and was laid to rest the next day in Luwero.
While many expected a large turnout from fellow entertainers, only a few artists showed up to pay their respects—a development that quickly sparked debate online about the apparent disunity within Uganda’s music industry.
However, Jowy Landa has taken the reaction in stride. In her own words, she didn’t expect the burial to attract a crowd, especially from industry colleagues with tight schedules.
“It wasn’t a concert, it was a funeral. I didn’t expect artists to come and sing for me,” she said. “Whoever managed to come, came through. I don’t take it as a big deal. I understand the pain of the public, but artists are busy.”
The Team No Sleep (TNS) singer explained that while some did not make it physically to Luwero, several reached out privately with support, both emotional and financial.
“Those who came and stood with our family during the burial are our real people. You cannot force people to stand with you,” she said. “But I also received many messages and calls from people in the industry.”
Among those who reached out was fellow artist A Pass, who not only called to console her but also sent a token of financial support.
“For example, A Pass called me and we talked for a long while. He sent messages of condolences and some money. Some artists who didn’t show their faces were busy with other engagements. It’s okay!”
Jowy Landa’s calm and understanding tone in the face of grief has been met with admiration from fans, many of whom continue to express their condolences and solidarity online.
