Kati Kati pulses with amapiano and afro-pop at tattoo-themed party

Zex’s performing Number Emu which had the Afro-pop and Amapiano mix

Friday night at Kati Kati was anything but ordinary, as music lovers and bold self-expressionists converged for the Linus Tattoo Party — a celebration of Afro-pop, Amapiano, and creative freedom that turned the venue into a playground of music, art, and unforgettable vibes.

With South African Amapiano stars Scotts Maphuma and Lee McKrazy headlining, the crowd came ready to dance, shout, and leave their mark — literally. From the red carpet entrance to the buzzing tattoo and piercing station, there was no mistaking the night’s theme: come as you are, and leave with more than just a memory.

The atmosphere was electric from the jump, with striking photo booths capturing the glam, while others leaned into the edgy offerings of ink and steel. For those needing a breather, the VIP lounge offered a welcome pit stop with food, drinks, and a bit of calm before diving back into the action.

Behind the decks, a strong lineup of local DJs — Melvin DJ, Kamali, DJ Vans, DJ Alza, Eyo Mackus and DJ Bugy — delivered set after set of crowd-pleasers, keeping hips moving and the speakers rattling with a fusion of Afro-pop and Amapiano that never let the tempo drop.

Live performances brought the party to another level. Elijah Kitaka wooed with soulful vocals, while Zex Bilangilangi got the crowd singing along to “Number Emu,” turning up the local love. Etania, one of the night’s hosts and performers, commanded the stage with a dance-heavy performance that made her unofficial slogan — “No leaving the venue!” — more of a fact than a request.

When Scotts Maphuma and Lee McKrazy finally hit the stage, the crowd was more than ready. Their energetic set brought out roars, singalongs, and synchronized dance moves, with tracks like “Shayi Moto,” “Jealousy,” and “Yini Ngathi” turning Kati Kati into a full-blown Amapiano wave.

Just as their final beats dropped, the skies opened with a gentle drizzle — almost as if to signal a wrap to a night that had already drenched Kampala in rhythm and revelry.

Whether it was inked skin, ringing ears, or just a camera roll full of selfies, everyone left with a piece of a night that won’t be forgotten any time soon.
