Ugandans really are a special breed of resilient, creative, and stubbornly lawless in equal measure. For years, we have turned gazetted green areas into shortcuts, lounges, parking spots, and boda boda runways. First, boda riders casually hijack pavements, forcing pedestrians to seek refuge on the grass. But let’s be honest, even when the pavement is free, some pedestrians still deliberately ignore the walkways and proudly create their own paths through the greenery.
KCCA has decided enough is enough. If you are caught grass-hopping, you are handed a hoe and assigned a patch to dig. Maybe it is “new girl on the block” energy you know, fresh vibes, “we must change things overnight” determination, etc. Whatever the case, we hope this helps restore green and build towards our smart city vision.
