After nearly a decade away, young and talented artist Angel Nambatya is set to touch down in Uganda this Sunday evening, marking her highly anticipated return since relocating to Sweden with her family back in 2016.
Nambatya, who holds dual nationality for Uganda and Sweden, had no idea that music would become such a major part of her life. Inspired by Sweden’s rich and welcoming musical environment, she found herself in the studio — eventually recording two songs, “Am in Love” and “Nkwagala Nyo”, which are now streaming on Spotify, YouTube, TikTok, and other major platforms.
Interestingly, while building her music career, Nambatya also pursued a professional path as a nurse, graduating and securing a job at one of Sweden’s top healthcare centers. By day, she saves lives — and by night, she lights up stages across Sweden with her soulful performances.
Speaking ahead of her return, Nambatya expressed excitement about recording new music and collaborating with various Ugandan producers. She also praised the warm reception her music has received abroad.
“The same love Maddox and Rickman received in Sweden is the same love I have experienced,” Nambatya shared. “Our music is alive and playing on repeat — both among Ugandans and the Swedish nationals.”
When asked about facing the stiff competition in Uganda’s vibrant music scene, Nambatya remained confident and clear-eyed: “Competition in music is inevitable, but the focus should always be on creating good music. That’s exactly what I’m coming to do.”
With her talent, global perspective, and determination, Angel Nambatya is poised to add a fresh sound to Uganda’s music scene — and her journey is just getting started.
