During the gear up to his concert, King Saha had promised to perform 100 songs but he only managed 30 songs in his three sets. What stood out was him singing live.
Two letters from the Ugandan police were sent out in a space of two days regarding King Saha’s concert. One came on Thursday afternoon from the police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke halting the concert on recommendations of the joint security and national security technical team, which reportedly observed signs of “potential structural failure on the facility, likely to endanger public safety.”
The second letter annulling their earlier decision came out on the day of the event after a joint security team, along with the event organisers and venue managers, to re-evaluate how the event would proceed while adhering to previously recommended safety measures.
All this time, King Saha never left cricket Oval. In fact, he said he did not sleep the entire Thursday night waiting for confirmation on whether the event was on or off. He did his final rehearsals on Friday morning after he was given a green light.
This disruption as well as his affiliation to Bobi Wine worked in his favour. As he was leaving the venue after everything was cleared, revellers were making their way into the venue.
By 1pm, the queue was long and not even the rain could stop his fans from showing their loyalty. By 9pm, the venue was full and it is safe to say he had more than 25,000 people in attendance.
The security and bouncers were on several occasions overpowered by the overwhelming numbers, especially at the VIP access area and VIP gates, which saw the VIP section look like the ordinary section. There were no food and drink points while most people did not have anywhere to sit.
The different thing about this show was that Saha kicked off his performance at 8:40pm and he performed most songs that the crowd are familiar with live. From his latest Nakyagala to his first song Signal.
He had promised to perform 100 songs at this concert but he only managed 30 songs in his three sets.
In the first set, he performed Signal, Sikyakusobola, Tereza, Mulilwana, Mwana Gwe, Bantu Baffe, Mpa love, Biri Biri, Muwomya and Best Friend with Spice Diana.
In his second set, he did Gundeze, Money, Pretty Pretty, Kimala, Abanjagala, Kunya with Mudra, Nkwagala Omu with Navio before ending with Science which he would have performed with Winnie Nwagi had she been there.
During the last set, King Saha did six songs, including Very Well, Sala Pulesa, My Way, Hallo, Zakayo and finally Ebiseera.
Every break Saha took lasted about 20 minutes with other artistes, including Vyroota, Roden Y, Fik Gaza, Feffe Bussi, An-Known, Big Eye, Dax Vybz, Levixone and Mickie Wine, Pallaso, Shakira Shakira, Winnie Wa Mummy, Mark Da Urban, Acidic Vokoz and Topic Kasente filling in for him.
Every time Bobi Wine was shown on the screens, the crowd went wild and some artistes used it to their advantage to get the crowd cheering.
Despite the fatigue and lack of enough rest, Saha put up an amazing performance that satisfied his fans.
