Pearl Rhythm Festival returns for another edition

With a growing number of Ugandan festivals, it’s rare to find one that remains focused on its original purpose. The Pearl Rhythm Festival, however, has consistently stayed true to its core beliefs for nine editions, focusing on fostering and promoting authentic Ugandan sounds while discovering and guiding new voices in the industry.

Over the years, the festival has collaborated with various artists who may not be mainstream but are preserving Uganda’s unique ethnosound. For example, in 2022, the festival showcased an exciting fusion between musicians from the Batwa minority community and Kampala-based ethno-artists. The collaboration between Andereya Baguma and the Batwa’s Omuduli sound was a standout performance, highlighting the festival’s commitment to celebrating traditional Ugandan music.

This year’s edition, scheduled for October 25-26 at the National Theatre, will carry the theme “Taking Turns With The Earth.” The festival aims to create lasting memories through musical performances while also raising awareness about environmental conservation.

In addition to the stage performances, this edition will include panel discussions on environmental issues and how art can contribute to protecting the environment. Artists like Jajja Timo, Essie Omweshongozi, Haka Mukiga, Charles Obina, and Kenneth Mugabi will perform, offering a diverse lineup of musical talent.

The Pearl Rhythm Festival promises to be a vibrant blend of music, culture, and environmental consciousness, staying true to its mission of uplifting Uganda’s unique sound and addressing important societal issues.
