Obafest returns for a three-day cultural celebration

Following the success of last year’s inaugural edition of the Obafest, Bell Lager, has announced its retuen . This year, the festival will span three days, from October 18 to 20, 2024, at Jahazi Pier in Munyonyo. The celebration will also extend beyond Uganda, including Kenya, Tanzania, and South Sudan, promising an unforgettable showcase of the region’s rich cultural diversity.

“We aim to deliver an even more memorable experience that highlights the vibrant culture of East Africa, allowing attendees to immerse themselves in our music, food, and beer. Bell Obafest is back, bigger and better, thanks to the overwhelming positive reception last year, which saw over 5,000 people in attendance,” said Matilda Babuleka, Marketing Manager, Beer Portfolio at Uganda Breweries Limited.

The festival will remain true to its core pillars, positioning itself as a beacon of African optimism by showcasing East African culture through food, music, beer, and a unique presentation of each participating country’s cultural identity. This year’s festival campaign, “This is How We Do,” reflects these goals.

Exciting additions and expanded lineup

Bell Obafest 2024 will feature four stages, offering diverse entertainment experiences:

  • The main stage, spotlighting top performers
  • A second stage focused on cultural and alternative acts
  • A DJs arena for electrifying performances

The introduction of the Nexters Stage, an open platform where undiscovered talents can showcase their skills, offering a chance for new stars to shine.

“In line with our ambition to be Uganda’s most inclusive and sustainable festival, we are thrilled to continue our partnership with Light for the World Uganda. Together, we will curate experiences catering to persons with disabilities. Bell Lager remains committed to shaping a more inclusive society,” added Matilda.

Partnerships and event management

This year’s festival partners include Swangz Avenue and Talent Africa, responsible for event production and artist management. Solutions East Africa will handle the event experience, Scanad Uganda will oversee advertising and creative content, Corporate Image will manage PR and event communication, Saladin Uganda will handle media buying, and DigiTribe will manage digital communications.

Impact across various touchpoints

Bell Obafest is not only a cultural celebration but also a platform for positive impact:

Beer: As the festival’s title sponsor, Bell Lager will provide an authentic beer experience that aligns with the celebration of East African culture. This year’s edition will also feature Bell’s citrus-flavored variant, Bell Citrus.

Food: The festival will host a food market, featuring vibrant stalls representing the diverse culinary traditions of East Africa. This initiative will provide opportunities for food vendors to foster entrepreneurship and showcase their creativity.

Music & Dance: A diverse range of artists, from emerging talents to established performers, will promote the region’s music and dance culture, giving artists a prominent stage. Content creators will also have a platform to showcase their creativity and monetize their talent.

Bell Obafest is committed to supporting local communities by empowering young vendors, entrepreneurs, and artists, offering them exposure and income opportunities. Additionally, the festival is taking steps to minimize its environmental impact, with initiatives focusing on waste management, recycling, and sustainable practices to ensure a greener event.
