Ankole culture to be revived at upcoming Basheshe Festival

The second edition of the Basheshe Festival is set to revive Ankole’s rich cultural heritage on 1st September at University Inn in Mbarara City. The event will feature a vibrant showcase of traditional and modern Ankole cultural exhibitions, including music, dance, local cuisine, and children’s games.

Event organizer Marcus Aine, also known as Lord Virus, explained that the Basheshe Festival is designed to restore Ankole culture and promote cultural tourism. The festival will support local businesses involved in the sale of traditional arts and crafts, while creating lasting memories for friends and families.

“Attendees will experience a wide variety of Ankole traditions, from food and entertainment to handmade crafts and cultural rhythms,” Lord Virus shared. “We’ll have traditional dishes prepared on-site and showcase unique crafts, alongside old-school games like okwepeena, hide and seek, and akarere (football).”

He added, “There will also be live performances by top regional artists, catering to diverse musical tastes and engaging all age groups.”

The Basheshe Festival, organized by Octrain Events, will blend cultural elements with contemporary entertainment. Featured performers include Florence Musimenta, Megatone, Prince Exzit, Bo-Ruti, Jkays, Raina Rosie, and others, alongside popular DJs and MCs.
