How many times can a story take you through the entire gauntlet of emotions? In One Day’s case, the answer is three times. First it was through David Nicholls novel of the same title. Then came the movie adaptation starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess. Again under the same title. Now we have the British mini-series with the same title.

Like the other, this One Day is about how best friends, Emma (Mod) and Dexter (Woodall) spend a specific day in the year, over several years. July 15 to be specific, which is the day their friendship started, on the day of their graduation in 1988. Over the years, until 2007 we get to see how this one day pans out for them, whether they remain friends, the ups and downs of their lives since the previous day. You get the picture. If you have read the book and watched the movie and are wondering if that scene also happens here, the answer is yes. If you have no idea what I am talking about, we shall not deny you the opportunity to go through that gauntlet of emotions I mentioned earlier.

Getting the story in a series format allowed a depth in the storytelling that the film couldn’t accommodate. The cast also fit their roles well. This is the first thing I’ve seen Mod in but Woodall is a familiar face from White Lotus. It is nice to see him in a main role.

That said, the series is not without the aspects of many shows on Netflix today which are blasé about nudity and strong language.
