Ronald Magada, known to many as Maro, has visibly been off the music scene for a couple of years and he does not deny it.

During his album release party at Sky Lounge last Thursday evening, Maro said the reason he was missing in action the last two years was not that he was failing musically.

“My 22-track album has taken a whole year to put together, and that has kept me busy,” he said.

The album, titled 98 Good Decisions, was unveiled at an event that attracted other singers and Maro fans, among them Morocco Omari, an American actor popular for his role as Tariq Cousins in the TV series, Empire.

Omari was the one that introduced Maro on stage after giving a brief of how they met and eventually became friends. Maro performed most of the songs on his new album, including Only God Knows, Anjagala, Nsiima, Gali Yo, Bambwa and Ko. He threw in a little bit of his old familiar music, playing I Am Not A Star, Kamboyine and Atwooki, to which fans sang along.

The album was produced by Nessim, Brian Beats and HitableSoundZ in Tanzania and mastered by Maro’s main producer and backup artiste Zuli Tumz.

From what we learnt, Omari introduced Maro to late American singer Whitney Houston’s songwriter, who offered some advice on his sound.

Some of the collaborations on the album have Navio, Lilian Mbabazi, Beenie Gunter, Nai Boi and Proff from Kenya, as well as Barnabasclus from Tanzania.

The evening with Maro stretched into midnight and among the people that bought autographed copies of the album that evening was artiste Aziz Azion, Tyler Himself and Navio, among others. Will this be Maro’s comeback year? We shall keep tabs on this new album and see.
