Ankole musicians are optimistic that the recently launched Jam Session night at the Roof Top bar in Mbarara City will help them adopt the tactics of performing on stage with live music unlike in the past when most of them used to sing on stage following music recorded on Compact diskettes (CDs).

While addressing journalists on Wednesday evening at the Roof Top bar Mbarara, Producer JayKays Alpha the Chairperson Jam session night asked local artists to embrace every Thursday night urging them to use it as a chance to get expertise in performing live music to their audiences rather than singing crappy music on CDs like in the past.

“Let us own this because if we don’t embrace this together one of us is going to fail to start from the DJs, promoters, media, and the rest of the music players, this jam session will help us be creative, do rehearsals from home and will bring us together through unity. It will benefit us starting from upcoming, established artistes and to the legends, we have a band that we are going to be playing with, and let this be the home of all artists and whenever you are here use the chance to listen and master sounds,” said JKays Alpha.

He added, “We shall also have seminars to train us on how to manage hunger issues, how to use media, we are big artists and I believe we shall do great things this time.”

Singer CJ Champion is hopeful that Jam Session Night will develop local talents in mastering live music performance, he thus encouraged all music players in the region to support it and be part of it.

“We shall be doing live music not crappy music on compact diskettes, this is going to be an academy to nurture musicians to adopt live band music performance, this is the night investors will use to spot potential artists, this Jam Session will benefit everyone in the music industry/business and it will become easier for us to do music businesses together,” said CJ Champion.

Legendary singer Rasta Charz advised local artistes to make this Mbarara Jam Session unique from the rest of the Jam sessions in Uganda as he asked young talents to use this opportunity well live band music.

“Let us use this Jam Session night to meet, know each other and share ideas, our western jam session should be different from the rest of jam sessions in Uganda, here musicians are not used to live, young talents who are not used to live should be given opportunities to master well how live music is done, I advise young talents to embrace it and use it to benefit them,” said Rasta Charz.

Kabaka Symo the president Greater Ankole Musician Association (GAMA) commended the proprietors of the night as he advised local artistes to get involved in it quoting that it is going to be a strong foundation for the Western music industry.

The Mbarara Jam Session Night will happen every Thursday at La RoofTop Bar in Mbarara City and this night will majorly focus on promoting Western music.
