Luganda should be adopted as the official language of Ugandan Airlines – Salvador

Patrick “Salvador” Idringi

Earlier this month, the Ugandan Cabinet approved the adoption of Kiswahili as an official language. It directed that it be made a compulsory subject in primary and secondary schools.

This was after the government set up the Uganda National Kiswahili Council in 2019 to guide the introduction of Kiswahili as the second national (official) language.

Despite that decision, some Ugandans especially on social media suggested that at least Luganda, which is the most spoken language in Uganda be used as the official language of Uganda Airlines, and among these is comedian Patrick “Salvador” Idringi.

He says that if Luganda is made the official language, Uganda would be proud.

“Right now, Luganda is the most spoken language throughout the country. I wouldn’t mind if it was adopted as the official language to be used by Uganda Airlines. I’m sure we’d all be proud to hear a home language spoken on arrival in Johannesburg whether you understand it or not,” he posted.

The post has since sparked huge debate with some social media users supporting the idea while others trashed the idea to the extent of saying that it is “Uganda Airlines not Buganda Airlines”
