During the late Paul Kato Lubwama’s vigil at his home in Kisigula village, Mutundwe parish, mourners were surprised to hear that the deceased comedian was related to politician and educator, Dr John Chrysestom Muyingo, the state minister for higher education. Some mourners found it had to connect the dots as they wondered how Mr Muyingo a member of the monkey clan (Nkima) would be referred to as a brother to Lubwama, a member of the civet cat clan (Ffumbe).

According to Conan Daniel Busingye, a seasoned education reporter who worked closely with Mr Muyingo for years, Lubwama and Dr Muyingo are distantly related. He explains that the late Victoria Nakiwala gave birth to the latter and subsequently also had two children with the late Kato Lubwama’s father.

“Maama Victoria Nakiwala (R.I.P) gave birth to Dr Muyingo in the Nkima (Monkey) Clan. Subsequently, she also had two children in the Ffumbe Clan with the father of the Late Hon. Kato Lubwama. But she did not get married in the Ffumbe Clan,” he clarified

“It’s worth noting that Hon. Kato Lubwama’s father, had another wife, who bore Paul Kato Lubwama and his twin brother (who unfortunately passed away several years ago). The two Honorable Members (Dr. Muyingo & Lubwama) knew each other, and would cordially salute each other, as brothers,” he added

Lubwama, a former Member of Parliament for Rubaga South died on June 7, 2023. He will be laid to rest on Wednesday June 14, 2023.
