UMA multipurpose hall in Lugogo was filled to capacity on Eid day as comedy duo Maulana and Reign held the third edition of their annual “Soyi Soyi” comedy show.

The show attracted revellers from different walks of life including musicians, fellow comedians, socialites, business people, and some legislators among others. The legislators included Muhammad Nsereko the Member of Parliament for Kampala Central, Hillary Kiyaga alias Dr Hilderman of Mawokota North, and Geoffrey Kayemba Solo of Bukomansimbi South among others.

Comedians Daniel Kalela and Cotlida Inapo were the hosts of the day who made sure everything moved on schedule. As the two emcees invited one act after another, they also dropped a few punchlines to keep the audience entertained.

During the show, Yeffe Band entertained the audience with live performances. This was followed by the first acts of the day Nsombabyuma and Abiriga who set the pace for other talents like Sammie and Shawa, Qkamba and Surney, The Talkers, Merry Hearts (Tumbeetu), Dr Tee Amale with his hilarious political commentary accompanied by Kalela.

Gravity Omutujju was the first musician to step on the stage whose energetic performance did not leave everyone the same. This was especially seen when he performed his latest song ‘Okwepicha’ which made him command the lights to be switched off hence creating a dark hall lit with phone flashlights. In the immediate aftermath, the Bizonto comedy group took it away. Then, musician Meseach Ssemakula followed suit with his “Sigwe Onsiimira” hit song and others which saw revellers sing after him. His performance left people yearning for more but he had to remind them that it was not his show.

Maulana and Reign entered the stage at 10:15 pm singing their song “Wafanana Nyoko” while the Yeffe Band played its rhythm. The next 40 minutes were characterised by laughter from the audience as the comedy duo cracked different jokes, some of which were in line with the recent events the country has experienced like the Presidential campaigns among others.

The next session was opened with an electric performance from Roden Y Kabako Kabako followed by Crysto Panda and Bazar Bazar. Amooti and the New Amarula Production’s performance lasted about 2 minutes, leaving some revellers unsatisfied. The hosts of the day however explained that they still had a lot of items on the program yet time was running out. Big Eye, Spice Diana, and MC Mariachi also entertained the attendees with their music and punchlines respectively before the comedy duo returned to the stage.

At exactly one minute past midnight, Maulana and Reign returned to the stage and performed their song with musician Betina Namukasa. They later performed with Shakira Shakira. The show continued until late at night. Prior to “Soyi Soyi” Season 3, the comedy duo told the media during a press conference that this particular show was meant to honor the late Kato Lubwama for his contribution to their career.
