The skirt suit reimagined

CHANGING TIMES! The evolutions in fashion today have made it so that the skirt suit is not something you simply wear to work, but can also be worn anywhere from a red carpet, to street style.

When I was younger, one of my dream jobs was to be a secretary. And this had nothing to do with spending my days clicking away on keyboards. It was rather about how well put together these ladies always seemed in their matching skirt suits; prim and proper is what they seemed.

However, in the present day, there is possibly no amount of money you would pay me to wear those skirt suits. Times have changed and so has the once grey-coloured and simple skirt suit that was one of the most preferred dress codes for many women in the corporate world.

The evolutions in fashion today have made it so that the skirt suit is not something you simply wear to work, but can also be worn anywhere from a red carpet, to street style. And this has been made possible because of the twitches and fashion reimagination of this fashion piece. With more colours, prints, and cuts, the skirt suit is something you are going to want in your closet pretty soon.

Here is how you can wear this piece, to suit any setting and always end up with a style-approved look.

Wear it with colour

The traditional skirt suit was made to be worn in two major hues, which were grey and black. However, the reimagination of this trend is such that you can wear your suit in any colour of your choice, as long as it is well accessorised. You can choose from darker shades such as black, navy or grey, and still have a great look. You can also decide to go for spicer options such as pink, green, red or even anything along the neon side of the colour spectrum. What adding colour to this look does is that it gives it a great style spin, and looks stunning all at once.

Work with stylish cuts

Forget the traditional over-the-knees and buttoned-up skirt suit; the improved version of this allows for any cuts and adjustments that will make your skirt suit look like something straight out of Harper’s Bazaar. You can wear your skirts with varying hem lengths, keep your jacket collarless, and even switch up the straight skirt for a skater version. This is the kind of look that would work great when dressed down with sneakers.

You also have the option of adding some prints to this ensemble, and these could be anything from florals, polka dots, stripes or even a checkered print.

There are no limitations here, as long as the skirt suit option you decide on is appropriate for the setting in which you are wearing it. And do not skip on those accessories as those are what put the look together.
