Afrigo Band serves fans nostalgia at special Eid fete

The audience that turned up for the Eid Special music show by Afrigo Band, danced, sang and shared love.
Herman Ssewanyana popularly known by the alias Omwana w’ensenene Ssewanyana, was as much entertaining with his frolicking as he visibly sunk his soul in the congas using his palms and his elbows and while at it, making faces. At some point, he pulled one drum, held it between his legs while lying on his back, his bulging eyes connecting with the audience that cheered him on.

Some went on to give him money. On the other end of the stage, Moses Matovu blew into the saxophone with dedication and such passion that he animatedly moved his body as if to emphasise the beauty of the music he was harmoniously playing.
Behind him, Daniel Kaggwa Sseninde busied his hands on the keyboard while Charles Busuulwa’s flickered on the bass guitar, Isaac Zimbe playing the drums, and Frank Mbalire on the electric guitar.
The crowd could not help but sing along to the classics they played. The older folks held each other, waltzing away.
Then there was Sarah Tendo, Francis Kyeyune and Phiona, the queen and king dancers who shook their bodies like their bodies were jelly soft. There is a reveller, beer in hand, who attempted to imitate the choreographed dances on stage but ended up kissing the ground.
Afrigo Band’s music and stage presence is an ever-green offering in times of flirting loyalty by music audiences. It is a novelty harnessed by the band that is shy of 50 years of existence.

It was full house at Georgina Gardens on Lubya Hill, which gave the venue proprietor, George Mutebe, reason to keep his grin on, and so for the event organiser, Eddie Sendi.
Politician and singer Eddy Yawe was scheduled to headline the show but did not appear but no one was complaining because at midnight when it all ended, the crowd could not have asked for more.
