The Voice Africa: Gaetano to host, judges revealed

Gaetano Kaggwa

The Voice Africa debuted last week on the small screen.

Taking place in Nigeria, the first episode detailed the process of selecting contestants from the different African countries, Nigeria had more than 50,000 entries while Uganda had more than 5000 entries.

Each African country where Airtel operates will have at least seven contestants.

The blind auditions start tomorrow, at 8pm. In Uganda, you can catch episodes on NTV, as well as the video on demand platform Airtel TV.

But that’s not what we are talking about now, such shows present more than the contestants, there must be a host, judges and mentors.

At the beginning of the week, we were curious of who will be judging, you know Airtel won’t let Nigerians run the show, even when they are the host nation, we also wondered whose voice and face will be on the screens saying: Welcome to The Voice Africa….

We can confirm that former Big Brother Africa housemate Gaetano Kaggwa will be the host of the show whose auditions will air starting tomorrow.

Whether Kaggwa will have a co-host, that’s something we are yet to establish.

Kaggwa broke the news when he took to his Instagram during the week and posted a picture captioned, “guess who’s hosting Voice Africa…?”

For the judges, it’s heavily a speculation, it’s possible there will be judges from the entire continent. East Africa will have a judge and so will the central, south and the west.

According to our sources, the lineup of judges has soukous and DRC music legend Awilo Longomba, Tanzania’s songstress Lady Jaydee and Nigerian singer Yemi Alade and Locko from Cameroon.

The four artists all represent different cultures, backgrounds and at some point, generations.

The Voice Africa airs on NTV every Sunday at 8pm and a repeat on Spark TV every Monday.
