Kafa Coh impresses jury at Mashariki Africa Film Festival

Ugandan Film Kafa Coh was over the weekend awarded the Signis award as the best film at the 8th edition of the Mashariki Africa Film Festival in Rwanda.

A Signis award is given by the Jury members after considering several things including, how the film will perform at an international level, Justice, and Human Rights, among others.

The seven days festival was celebrated under the theme: “Afro-futurism,” celebrating African language and culture through telling stories that bring Africa as a protagonist. It was also an opportunity to show how African filmmakers are capable of dreaming and courageously speaking out for the future of the continent.

In line with the festival theme, Kafa Coh is a Pan-African film that highlights the injustices that come with greed for power.

The film is a production of Amani production house telling a story of a naive lawyer, Sandra Atika who gets caught up in a legal fight between two powerful rivals and former best friends, President Arima and his vice Cedric.

Shot in a fictional state Tango, the story highlights the injustices happening in African states. For example, President Arima chooses money over his people when he infects them with the Ebola virus. It also exposes press censorship.

The legal thriller was directed by Doreen Mirembe and Gilbert Likalia. The movie premiered in October 2022.
