Geoteady performing on stage
Roast and Rhyme returned to Jahazi Pier Munyonyo on Sunday under the theme ‘Afro Halloween’, with Gesoteady, Janzi Band and Azawi as the headlining acts.
The event also came with some changes like extending the stage at the shores of the lake, giving revelers a vantage point to party and enjoy the experience in a valley setting while the hospitality tents were also repositioned.
Like it has been the case, revelers accessed the venue at liberty and were busy involved in a number of activities like roasting meat and other delicacies, sipping beer, charting and catching up while the little ones were busy on fun bouncy castles for most of the day prior to the performances.
Geosteady was the first artiste to perform at the Bell-sponsored social event and he took the audience through a journey of his music career as well as a few covers from Ugandan, African and global artistes.
For a whole hour on stage, he performed several songs, including Oliver Mutukudzi’s Todi, Bob Marley’s Three little birds, Goodlyfe’s Ngamba, David Lutalo’s Kapapala and then his own Tokendeza, Ndiwamululu, Energy, Apaana, Nawuuma, Finally and Am in love, Owooma and finally Viola but the most intriguing moment in his session was when he was doing Same way and his baby mama, Prima came through to tip him. After noticing her, Geosteady switched things up with the band and they played Sauti Sol’s Suzanna which he altered the lyrics to suit his situation with her.

I see you change your skin color..And your hair is longer now,” he sang which forced the thrilled audience to applaud them.
When done, the deejay took the audience through a brief mix session before Janzi band took it on doing mostly reggae covers and some Bruno Mars’ jams, among others. During the entire time they were on stage, only a few people in the audience remained seated. They did songs that appealed to everyone in the audience.
Swangz Avenue who are the organizers of the show used the opportunity to also introduce their band known as Double Black. However, throughout their entire performance that lasted 20 minutes, they only played Nigerian music which didn’t appeal to some people in the crowd.
Azawi was later announced to be coming next on stage at 9:30pm and after the blacking out of the stage, people rushed closer to the stage to get an up-close to the artiste whose session was mostly acoustic while some songs on the lineup were new to the audience. Songs like Gimme, Mbinyumilwa and Tubatiisa. To the ones that the audience knew, the style in which she performed them was not appealing. Songs like Bamutute, Repeat it, My Year, Lo fit, party mood and Majje were the ones that excited the audience the most while they didn’t feel songs like Ache for you, Quinamino, craving, crazy lover, fwa fwa and party mood.
With the performances done at 10:30, leaving was at leisure as Fem Deejay took over the stage.
