Singer Vyper Ranking threatens to quit UMA

Vyper Ranking

Singer Vyper Ranking has threatened to exit the Uganda Musicians’ Association (UMA) because he said, the association does not have a strategy. While appearing on 933 KFM on Friday on D’Hook show, the dancehall star revealed that he will return their (UMA) identity card soon.

Vyper said UMA should be run by someone who can strategise for it, instead of fellow musicians. He made the statement while reacting to the ban on one of his music video – ‘Gwookya‘.

The disgruntled singer further explained that he was instructed to remove some scenes from the said video. As he awaits clearance from Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), Vyper is not happy with the fact that some Nigerian music videos with inappropriate scenes are playing on TV.

“I think it is just a body, it doesn’t work and very soon I’m going to return their card. I’m under UMA but I believe it doesn’t work,” he said before adding, “I wouldn’t like an artiste to run UMA, I want someone with strategies. Right now we are facing a lot of problems, these are some of the things that we do need as artistes.”

The singer however avoided addressing Cindy Sanyu, his one-time collaborator who also doubles as UMA’s current president, directly. Vyper’s statement comes a day after Cindy unveiled UMA’s Interim Executive Committee Members.

Vyper Ranking also said he is planning to release his 7-track EP titled Tryst next month. The singer, who has not fixed the date for his EP’s release is also planning to stage a music concert come 2023.
