Court assessors have advised the High Court in Kampala to convict Pr Jackson Ssenyonga’s guards accused of allegedly participating in a robbery incident that happened at his Christian Life Church in Kampala.
The accused, all guards at the city church, are Ali Ojulongo, Godfrey Mwanda, and Israel Waswa. They are charged with aggravated robbery and assault causing grievous harm to Sam Mukula.
Court assessors Sharp Mutoni and Consolate Tabu told a session presided by Justice Isaac Muwata that “they accurately evaluated the evidence presented by prosecution witnesses and they are persuaded that the accused persons committed the offence.”
These assessors explained that the prosecution witnesses placed the accused persons at the scene of the crime as they testified witnessing assaults and robbing of their victim Mukula.
The prosecution contends that the four accused and others still at large, on June 8, 2018, at Christian Life Church Makerere-Kavule, Kawempe Division, being armed with blunt objects, allegedly robbed Mukula of Shs500, 000 and his Itel phone worth Shs35, 000.
The prosecution further contends that shortly after or before the said robbery, the accused caused bodily harm to Mukula.
Police officer grilled
On April 14, senior police officer Topher Gimei Nakoko was grilled by the prosecution for his attempts to come up with a separate police report exonerating the accused Israel Waswa over his alleged involvement in the robbery.
Core to the Regional CID officer’s defence testimony was that on August 8, 2018, Waswa approached his office, raising a complaint about how he was unfairly charged with robbery charges. At the time, officer Gimei was working as regional CID officer attached to Kampala Metropolitan North.
