A new cultural centre has been opened in Kampala and it will be housing a French television network, broadcasting several channels of French-language programming.
Located in Kabalagala – Nsambya, Maison TV5 Monde Kampala will be a centre for artistes and most importantly will be offering a great opportunity for Ugandans to learn the French language and the Francophonie culture.
While officiating the opening of the centre, the French ambassador in Uganda H.E Jules- Armand Aniambossou announced that TV 5 Monde will be open to youth, children, and young adults offering them an opportunity to access French lessons and learning using TV 5 Monde materials.
He added that the premises will also serve as an entertainment and cultural centre where people will have an opportunity to watch films, enjoy music, French clubs, poetry among other activities that will be able to help Ugandan appreciate the cultures and values of the Francophonie.
“Let’s bet that this new tool, complementary to what the Alliance Francaise de Kampala, the French School of the great lakes and the actions carried out by our Embassy, will be successful and expand in years to come,” he remarked.
The Ambassador also said that there is a need to Equip Ugandans with the French Language to make business in the region since the country is surrounded by Francophonie countries.
“I’m not in Uganda to recolonize but offer available opportunities to Ugandan people. The French language is not for French alone, Ugandans need to learn the language to tap into opportunities in the neighboring countries and the world over” he added
Thomas Mbussa Letakamba the director of TV 5 Monde revealed that the TV will also be opening a French Club for Ugandan journalists who are interested in learning French and the Francophonie culture.
Mbussa who is also revealed that TV 5 Monde will be extending roots to various parts of the country.
