Uganda needs change, democracy that represents minority- Chameleone

Chameleone wants People Power endorsement for Kampala mayoral race

Celebrated singer Joseph Mayanja known by his stage name as Jose Chameleone on Friday sought the endorsement of People Power pressure group for Kampala Lord Mayor seat ahead of the 2021 elections.

After picking the nomination forms from the Bobi Wine-led pressure group’s offices in Kamwokya, Kampala, the Baliwa singer said Uganda needed change and a democracy that represents the minority than what he described as “all this impunity that can be rested as we move forth”

“Today, I picked forms for Expression Of Interest for People Power’s endorsment of my interest in the position of Lord Mayorship of Kampala. My vision to transform Kampala’s underprivileged 90% is grounded in the people power philosophy of putting people first.

“I will thus support the process of single candidate selection and given the endorsement, I’m ready to delivery victory for people power at all levels in the city. I thank the People Power elections’ committee for putting together this process of candidate harmonisation. We also thank the people of Kampala for choosing to stand with me,” he said.

However, some people were left confused by his move as they assumed he would contest on the Democratic Party (DP) ticket given the fact that president general, Norbert Mao had appointed him national mobiliser last year when he officially joined the green political outfit.

During the announcement for his interest to join the race for Kampala Lord Mayor, Chameleone said he had followed his father’s footsteps by joining DP, one of the oldest political parties in Uganda.

However, many took to social media to congratulate him adding that he had acted as his name, Chameleon.
