If you randomly ask anyone who their greatest Ugandan artiste is, some of the names that will come up are Jose Chameleone, Bobi Wine and Eddy Kenzo, the late Mowzey Radio and Bebe Cool.
These artistes have done so much for the secular Ugandan entertainment industry but one artiste stands out among them according to Kenyan musical group Sauti Sol.
“Bebe Cool is our great musician in Uganda, he has been here for more than 10 years and still producing good music. He paved a way for Kenyan music into Uganda from way back when he was a member of East African Bashment Crew,” they said while appearing on After 5.
The band that is going to be release their 5th album titled ‘Midnight Train’ this year based their assessment on the fact that Bebe Cool has been consistent and outstanding on top of paving way for many Kenyan musicians get airplay on the Ugandan market.
Just like Uganda, Sauti Sol said that they also face a challenge of copy right in Kenya whereby they received their annual money that amounts to about Shs45m which was less than what they expected from the association responsible for the arts in industry in Kenya.
“What we received is not what we didn’t expected but it seems the copyright law is wanting allover Africa.” The award winning group has worked with Bebe Cool on a song titled ‘Mbozi Malwa’ that received massive airplay around East Africa.
Besides Sauti Sol, Bebe Cool has songs with Necessary Noise, Nameless and Redsan all from Kenya.
