A number of individuals and companies have donated food and other commodities to the Ministry of Health to help in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
Among the donors is the ‘People Power’ pressure group led by Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine which donated 50 bags of posho, 30 cartons of salt and 30 boxes of soap.
While updating Ugandans on the coronavirus situation on Wednesday evening, President Museveni commended People Power among other organisations, for making their contribution towards the fight.
“Thank you very much People’s Power. Now you see, you’re joining the people,” President Museveni said throwing his ministers and other government officials who attended his address at State House into laughter.
Flagging off the donations at their head office in Kamwokya, Bobi Wine said he was playing part in filling the gap of the enormous need that has been created by the pandemic.
“As People Power, we have been receiving numerous calls from across the country on how we can give help because the lockdown has affected many people. We could not give immediate help to these people given our little resources, but we have decided to take advantage of the national taskforce,” he said.
The items were delivered to the Ministry of Health by the People Power leader of women’s league Flavia Kalule.
