The mayor-2021-hopeful was intercepted by URA officials outside BBS TV where he had gone to perform for the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi. The ‘Baliwa’ singer was shocked when the enforcement officers blocked him as they demanded documantation.
In the video that was recorded on April 12, 2020, Jose Chameleone is heard yelling on top of his voice at URA officials who blocked the road as they requested that he produces the documents showing the registration of his vehicle, a Land Cruiser V8.
The URA tax enforcer in the video is heard asking the singer to produce the documents showing his car’s registration but Chameleone was not ready to oblige. According to Chameleone, he had not moved with the papers and they were at home.
The official who is not ready to fall for his excuse orders the singer to go home and pick the documents. That’s when all hell breaks loose and Chameleone asks why URA always looks out for him and why they are clamping his vehicle and blocking his movement on a public holiday.
“You cannot come to me on a public holiday and start bringing your nonsense. We are fed up, we are tired! Today is a public holiday, Easter, Jesus rose today. When does URA rest?” Chameleone asks.
The scuffle proceeds for a while before the singer eventually makes his way through to perform at the TV station.
According to events promoter Balaam Barugahara, the car that is a 2016 model is registered with a South Sudan number plate and tax payable ranges from Shs100M onwards.
It should be remembered that Jose Chamelone didn’t buy this car as it was given to him by Achai Wiir a businesswoman in South Sudan after he recorded for a wedding and also performed at her wedding.
Last year the same car was involved in an accident in Busia where he had gone to perform and it was reportedly terribly destroyed and abandoned there. It was just recently that he brought this monster back on the road and it seems to be the one car he currently moves around in.
