Tugende Mukikadde organisers and sponsors after a press conference last week

The management of ‘Tugende Mukikade’, an annual event with a lineup of eminent classic artistes has come out to inform the public that the event has been put on hold due to the concern of the rapid spread of the coronavirus around the world.

MTN who are the official sponsors of the ‘Tugende Mukikadde’ show has called the organisers and asked them to push the show from April 4 to June 6. The postponing of the show was as a result of the ongoing spread of the virus that has raised tension as the virus was confirmed in East African countries like Tanzania, Rwanda, and Congo.

The show that was meant to happen at Kampala Serena Hotel is known for featuring old-timers of the Ugandan music industry and this edition, it was meant to have performers like Sweet Kid, Kabuye Ssembogga, Phoebe Nassolo, Mariam Ndagire, and Ragga Dee among others.

Patrick Kalungi who is one of the organisers of the show confirmed that he received an email from MTN and Stanbic asking them to postpone the much-anticipated show and since they were people injecting money in the event, he had to move the show and it will happen on June 6 if all goes well.

Although there are no confirmed cases of the virus in Uganda so far, neighboring countries like Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania have already registered patients with the virus putting Uganda under serious jeopardy.

Aside from ‘Tugende MuKikadde‘, events like the All-stars Africa -French Legends match that was scheduled to run between March 22 at Nambole Stadium was put on hold due to fear of the virus.

The Johnnie walker Sponsored Live Concert that was due on March 28, 2020, at Sheraton featuring the World’s best French Live Band Kassav and Vegedream has also been Postponed.

The virus has high chances of spreading in large crowded areas making it risky to hold such big events.

The other upcoming events that may be affected include, the ‘Eddy Kenzo Festival’ Scheduled for March 28, the ‘Kabaka birthday Run’ on April 5, 2020, ‘Vine Awards’ happening on March 17, 2020, the ‘Kampala food festival’, ‘Voltage music live concert’ and ‘The Hymn Experience’ scheduled for April 10 many others.

The country patiently awaits official communication about the above events as we take precautions to protect ourselves from the virus.
