I wrote my first song for Carol Nantongo but she ignored it – Azawie

Two months ago, one of the biggest record labels in Uganda Swangz Avenue signed new talent Priscilla Zawedde alias Azawi known for her hit song ‘Quinamino’

While appearing on the breakfast show on KFM this morning, Azawi talked about her music career but also shared a shocking fact about her first-ever written song.

The ‘Lo Fit’ singer revealed that when she realised she could write songs, she wrote one for fellow artiste Carol Nantongo but the singer has never sang it.

Even though she has no idea why Nantongo never sung the song, Azawi believes it is very good and she admits that she still loves it till now.

“I first wrote a song for Carol Nantongo but she did not release it. I don’t know why but I love the song,” she said.

Azawi adds that although her first attempt in music was rejected, she did not give up but continued to pursue her music career which has eventually paid off when she was signed by Swangz Avenue.

Azawi who was a karaoke singer and Eddy Kenzo’s backup artiste before she was picked up by Swangz Avenue says that her success in music is coming at a very first-rate but she won’t let all the success get to her. The singer tries to control all the attention she is getting by staying calm, down to earth and making sure that she concentrates on music other than fame.

The singer who recently graduated from Makerere University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce says that she decided to fully take up singing as a career when she went to perform but was not paid by the organisers but was handsomely tipped by the audience during her performance which motivated her to continue singing.
