Reverend Father Deogratias Kiibi Kateregga, the celebrity priest who presided over the requiem mass of the late artiste Mowzey Radio is set to graduate with a Master of Arts in Journalism and Communication from Makerere University this Friday.
Fr Kiibi was admitted to the course in the 2016/2017 academic year.
Dr William Tayeebwa, head of the Department of Journalism and Communication says Kiibi is a practising journalist. “Yes, he joined the course three years ago and works with Radio Maria.”
One of his classmates, Hafitha Issa says he was an interesting character. “He cracked a few jokes in class. He was a funny character and social.”
Fr Kiibi came to the limelight in 2018 after he gave a hard-hitting and humorous sermon during requiem service for artiste Mowzey Radio, who died of injuries he sustained during a brawl in a bar in Entebbe.
Notably, he hit at those who said that Mowzey, having died in such circumstances, was not worthy of being prayed for in Rubaga Cathedral. “Those who are angry that we have prayed for his soul in this church can come and beat me up.”
He holds a Bachelors degree in Philosophy, Bachelors degree in Theology, a Master’s degree in Religious and Theological Studies, and a diploma in Social and Religious Studies. This week, Kiibi adds another degree to the bag. Congratulations Father Kiibi!
