Comedians finally launch association

After a year of doing underground work on how to better the comedy industry in Uganda, comedians have finally launched their association known as The Uganda Comedians Association (TUCA).

The launch happened on Wednesday evening at Atmosphere lounge where they laid out their plans on how they are going to restore their lost glory. The association headed by Fun factory’s Hannington Bugingo and deputised by Patrick Idringi commonly known as Salvado has members like Napoleone Emma, Agnes Akite and Alex Muhangi, Optional Allan, Hillary Okello, Okello Okello, Kenneth Kimuli and Maulana and Reign among others with Abbey Mukiibi as their Patron.

Speaking at the launch, Bugingo emphasized that the committee will only be in power for just two years to create balance amongst the other members and that all comedians are welcome. “This association is open to every comedians in Uganda so long as you pay an annual fee of shs100,000. We don’t discriminate whether you are from Arua, Mbarara, Gulu, Fortportal etc. It is open to everyone,” he said.

Adding to that, Napoleone Emma, who is in charge of publicity said that TUCA is the mother body of all the other comedy associations in Uganda. Since the association was started, they have been able to reduce on the vulgarity of comedians and the rampant issue of comedians asking for money from the audience.
