After winning the Best Director; Best Actor; Best Picture Editor and Viewer’s Choice Award at this year’s Uganda Film Festival awards, Ugandan film Laila was premiered on Friday evening at Century Cinema- Acacia Mall in Kampala.
In a glamorous Red Carpet event, the film attracted not only film-makers but even people from different calibers of life.
Award-winning Director Mr. Richard Mulindwa who is the brain behind the film explained that the success of the premier is an indication that Ugandans have started appreciating local talent.
“We are not celebrating Laila alone but we are celebrating Uganda’s film industry and local talent. Previously, few people would attend movie premieres but currently, the audience is encouraging” Mulindwa noted.
The drama feature film stars a one Patrick Nkakalukanyi as Jeff who gets in a dilemma when a schoolgirl he picked from a night club dies in his uncle’s house.
The film whose cinematography is tailored by Mr. Okrut Paul features a couple of talents that include Maureen Nabasumba, Joan Agaba, Raymond Rushabiro, Ronah Ninsiima, and Joan Agaba among others.
“Jeff’s fate is yet to change when his habit of picking girls from dancehalls turns into a nightmare for him. One fateful day, he seduces Lailah (a student) into going home with him who unfortunately dies in his Uncle’s house. The burden of a dead body dawns on him after failing to get it out of the house in many attempts.”
