From the moment media personality and MC Edwin Katamba, popularly known as MC Kats announced that he was HIV positive, a number of people have taken to social media to show him some love, while others have taken it as a joke and created memes out of his situation.
Notable among those is social media blogger Ashburg Kato who has been sharing videos of MC Kats crying out for help.
As those videos circulated, many reached out to his co-host and friend Douglas Lwanga, asking why he has been silent about his friend’s situation.
After a long moment of silence, Lwanga has finally said something.
In a post on his Facebook page this afternoon, Lwanga said the videos circulating on social media are old and that Kats is doing better now since he received treatment in London.
“MC Kats is Ok and stable guys no need to cause an alarm. I know lots of people are concerned and worried, Don’t get too worried. What we share me and him is quite personal and there’s no single time that I have no idea what’s happening in his life,” he said.
“I know many of you have been trying to reach out with all sorts of advice and solutions. His family, his mum and we- his close friends have been with him through his past dark days and we give thanks to God that he is safe now,” he added.
Lwanga also spoke about his silence on Kats’ situation.
“Having kept quiet online about his issue didn’t mean I didn’t know what’s going on. I knew so much and we have talked about so much with him that I choose to keep private. Even when he was in the UK I face timed with him and his UK friends so I knew what was going on.”
“My Email is full, my DM and inbox too of people saying I should talk to him and with all sorts of advice. He and I have shared a lot that I don’t find necessary discussing on this platform. However, Thank you for the care guys. If you need to share anything with him regardless, he is Ok with it please reach out to him in person.”
Lastly, I personally thank the UK team family and friends that stood by him in hospital to see him stabilise. Again I say MC Kats is not Mad like some people are taking him online. Even the medics in the UK proved that. In fact, his annual show “King of the Mic” is on next week Friday at wave lounge. If you really love him Fall in.”
He also noted that the videos circulating online are old.
“The videos being circulated are videos before he got treatment. He got medical attention and that’s why he is back in Uganda. Its a thing of the past so kindly stop sharing them for the love of likes and comments. Let’s be human for a minute.”
