If there is one thing the local film industry can’t forget about 2018, is the fact that it was the year they received a lot of love from other countries.

Among those were various nominations at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards; Ugandan films dominated the Best East African Film category with films such as The Forbidden, Torture, Bella and Devil’s Chest that was also nominated for Best Film and Best Director.

Singer Cindy Sanyu was also nominated for Best Actress where she was facing off with Jalade Omotola for her role in Alter Ego.

Yet even with all these nominations, not a single Ugandan film won an award, keeping Uganda’s wins at one by Mathew Nabwiso back in 2013.

But a chance to win one of these awards is here once again, after months of uncertainty, MultiChoice Africa has announced the opening of submissions for films for next year’s award show.

Also known as AMVCAs, the awards last took place in Lagos in September last year, then the award show had been moved to the end of the year to allow the pay TV broadcast the world cup.

This year, much as many expected the awards to either happen in March or September, they were not advertised until the beginning of November.

Submissions are open until December 13 while forms for submission are available on the Africa Magic website.
